Whew! I finally came in at 9:43 PM.
I’ve checked on Prolapse Ewe all day. I collected fecal samples a couple of days ago, so after morning chores, I got busy on them. I finished at nearly 2, running out to check on ewe every so often.
At 3:35 I checked on ewe. Uh oh. She had managed to squeeze...
Oh I AM proud of you! :weee
I don’t know if she will make it to lambing or I find her dead tomorrow. There’s just no way to know.
Some say the daughters of an animal that prolapses will have a tendency to prolapse too, and will take them to auction too. This ewe had twin ewes last year, I...
@AMKuska
The scientific basis for the phenomenon is well-established, and it’s frequently been discussed as a reason to make slaughterhouse practices more humane. The key ingredient here is lactic acid: in an unstressed animal, after death, muscle glycogen is converted into lactic acid, which...
Thank you and I hope so too!
Hahaha! You just never know what I’ll be doing or what the description will be. On BYH we are a bit more graphic and we post pictures. We all learn from each other. I didn’t take pictures of the procedure, but if I had , they would have been posted on BYH, not...
Drive stakes or T-posts at the end of the row. Run string between the posts about 4” apart for the peas to climb on. When they are done, cut the string loose, roll up and bag for the trash. It pull string out and compost the vines.
I called @Ridgetop on BYH, who is well acquainted with prolapses. We discussed the prolapse ewe. She convinced me that could sew up the ewes vulva to keep the prolapse in.
Ridgetop; Oh! It’s so EASY! Just get a curved needle and dental floss. Spray her lady parts with lidocaine sunburn spray...
I just woke up from an hour nap. Was up at 4:30 this morning. Was outside doing chores when a friend texted that he had a ewe with a prolapse. He was ready to shoot her and save the meat. He really didn’t know what to do, so I offered to come help. I went over there, 45 minutes away. We...
I put on my Atwoods cap and head mosquito net to do chores this evening. Gnats were lighting ob the net but couldn’t get in. Score!
And yes, the dogs barked their heads off at Monster Mom.
I cared for the animals this morning and changed clothes. @ninnymary i wore my “nice” overalls! I drove the mule to the paved road, then to the church where I parked my car. The pond on my road is deeper and wallowed out bigger, water up to the floorboard of the mule.
I went to Atwood’s grand...
Coffee is ready. On my second cup. Then I shall go mud doggin’ in my rubber boots that have holes in them, blue jeans, long sleeved shirt to keep gnats off. Poor sheep. They have really had it since January. I’ll finish my coffee and go dump water out of all the feed tubs and give them alfalfa...
The winds even blew down electrical transmission towers, they are heaps of twisted metal. The Mayor is telling people to stay home.
Downtown skyscrapers had those shiny glass plates blown out. Glass litters the streets, damage everywhere. It looks like a war zone.
Not a hurricane, no...
Houston news is still following tornado warning. It is going through downtown Houston. They are calling it a Destructive Thunderstorm, equal to a catagory 1 hurricanes with 80-100 mile an hour winds.
340,000 without power in Houston-so far.
I went to the Sheriff’s Breakfast this morning. 11 applicants for trade school scholarships were approved by a board of directors out of those who applied. Those that were rejected was because they are going to college.
He awarded a little over $4,000 for each student.
