Those are one of the most beautiful trees, but I thought they were for the subtropic places...


I live in the woods at a lake in Northern California. My garden is in a smallish clearing. Calypso orchids are among the wildflowers here.

Yea, but it's an invasive weed as well, so it does great all over. There's mixed sayings about whether it even flowers further up north or not.

It grows up north . . . at least a bit to the north. I have one tree. While it is hardy in zone 5 the branches don't always survive our winters. Some years everything starts from the ground and some years we have growth well up into the tree. I believe mine had flowers after our warm winter last year.
