Anyone know the story of why white lilies became symbol of Easter? Church by my parents throw them out after Easter, they do great in my zone.

White lilies popped up where Jesus' sweat dropped in his final hours of sorrow and distress, thus is why churches are usually full of white lilies and purple (the color of royalty) at Easter time.

You all may know this old florist's trick, but if not: When you receive a potted Easter lily, the blooms will keep longer and look better if you pull the yellow stamens out of the blooms as they open. Pull them off before they get powdery, which is a matter of hours after they open. If this is not done, the powder will discolor the bloom.
And of course, you can plant them outside after they finish blooming. The normal bloom time in the Midwest is July, I think.

They are REALLY easy to plant in your flower bed. They will double every year and can fill in a space nicely.

There are a ton of legends about the "Easter Lilly" some dating back to the B.C.

Today's "Easter Lilly" true name is the Bermuda Lily [Lilium longiflorum] and was discovered around 1777.

my neighbor works at a nursery and always gets easter lillies free after easter
one year show brought 11 of them i split them up between 2 properties
the have quadrupled in a matter of 2 years and each stalk has atleast 6 flowers each
mine do really well on the east facing side of the house
