This morning when I turned my computer on ... there was a message on the screen that Norton had performed an update and zapped a unwanted / bad bug and to restart the computer. I did ... now chrome disapeared and the computer is now in the primitive S L O W mode . It now takes up to a minute to switch to another page / post . So how do I re-install the chrome so that this computer runs fast like a bunny again ? :idunno :hu :caf

Whoa.

Well if you go to google.com/chrome , you can download the Chrome browser, Bob.

Speaking of cahoots, I wonder if there is something like that going on. Norton doesn't like Chrome? When I switched McAfee accounts recently to this new/old computer, they said I had to use Internet Explorer. So, now there's IE ~ otherwise, unused ~ on it. When I checked in with online support about 18 months ago, the first thing that they said was that there was an IE "issue."

At the repair shop, the guy talked about "bloat." I'm thinking about a separate hard drive but What the Hay!? How is it that our security programs contribute to this and then have to rescue us?

Whoa , whoa, and whoa again !!! Steve, I couldn't download the chrome in any way , shape, or form. So, I called Comcast 2 more times , talked to 2 different techs. speed is high, nothing else shows up to their tests, they couldn't fix the problem, so he transfered me over to Microsoft. A lady answered said what "could" be the problemssssss , and to diagnose the issue she wants $ 99 for starters then more $$$$$$$ as to what the issue is and for each issue. Since I had 3 popups saying that windows had errors and click here to fix the problems.... when I click the button, NOTHING HAPPENS. I told her to fix the problem on her nickel , she said that it's NOT Microsoft's fault and I need to pay for diagnosis and repair. :barnie I told her that it would be much cheaper to buy a new computer and start from scratch , then I hung up. :he I called Comcast again, told the new tech. of the result, and since he could'nt do anything else after he did his diagnosis, he transfered me to Norton antivirus. :idunno First tech removed about 15 items. Everything worked fine while he was on, then when he hung up, the chrome icon disapeared. :ep I called Norton again, a second tech. re-installed chrome and tested it. Drum role ... as soon as he hung up ... chrome disapeared and I could not re-install it as the notice said that chrome was already running and they could NOT install another or repair it. :he I called Norton again and got a tech. that was of NO help and said to go to a computer store for help, :th so I asked for a supervisor. He returned to say that the supervisor will return my call in a half hour. An hour later the supervisor called and he did another diagnostic on my computer, he removed several programs as well as 4 Norton add ons. Now my computer works much better, but alas still s l o w from what it was just yesterday. :caf what will tomorrow bring ? :idunno Edit to add another manody just showed up roght after I posted the above .... the slide bar on the right side of the screen that moves the post up and / or down starts to work only after about 20 seconds. ?????? :barnie :somad

Computers... ugh, they can be your best friends or worst enemy depending on what mood they are in.

The internet is the same way, and with all the viruses and hack attempts, things just get more complicated!

It's frustrating that getting a computer worked on can often cost more than just getting a new computer.

I've recently been a pretty big fan of the Chromebook line. They aren't full-featured and take a bit of getting used to, but if you're like my mom and wife and 99% of what you do is through a browser (email and browsing the web) then they are a great deal and aren't as prone to problems.

On a related note: Always remember to backup your data... and often! You never know what could happen and find all your important data / information lost!

YUP , yup, and yup again 10x times over and again with 3x comcast, microsoft as well as 4 times with norton,. This morning ... chrome as well as internet explorer works however it takes a long time to load each page then takes a longer time for the bar on the right side of the screen to move the page up and down. Any bright ideas ? :idunno

How old is your computer @bobm ?

I am totally NOT an expert on computers, but my son designs and sets up systems for large companies. When my computer got to the point yours is at, or sounds like... he said Microsoft is not totally supporting many of their old (systems/programs?) and your only option is a new computer. He replaced mine in November. I don't know what I would do without him! (the kid that I asked, 'why on earth do we need a computer?', years ago )

I am very good at figuring out how to use them, but I am clueless when it comes to how they work.
