Official Arizona Thread! Veggies in the Valley?

I picked beans this weekend. All the cool bush beans came up. I took a picture, but will have to remember to upload it. My plan for the weekend--if I get outside--is to start trimming the brussels sprouts. I ended up buying those fly predators--one online store had a free month if you...

Official Arizona Thread! Veggies in the Valley?

:bee Hello everyone! Lots of work to do in the garden this weekend. I need to putt the rest of the "old" carrots and mix all that dirt with the neighboring "chicken goo" pit. I am going to cover the whole area and let it cook all summer. BTW- I love all the diff smilies here. :mow

I got my first veggies out of the garden for 2009. 2 little green beans that hadn't turned red yet (firetongue). Very yummy. I have been eating the basil for a while, but that doesn't count as a veggie. Tonight: the lettuce is finally big enough for a salad!

    Oleander trimmings in the compost?

I wouldn't. You don't want to be digging in your garden next spring and accidentally scratch yourself on a woody part of the oleander.

Thanks! I am fun..in my own special way. Chrystal...I am afraid to show my husband your post. He might think we are twins seperated at birth. Except I am the runt in my family at 5'11". My younger sister is 6'5". I suppose "little package" is a matter of perspective. :D

Official Arizona Thread! Veggies in the Valley?

Thanks...I was lonely. I like to grow the weird stuff. I REALLY like things that are weird colors. IE- purple brussels sprouts and yellow carrots. I tend to stay away from things I can buy for $.25 at Sprouts. I also grow things that are heratige or have had all nutritional content...

Official Arizona Thread! Veggies in the Valley?

I am not finding one in the search engine...but AZ has so many different grow-zones, I wonder if it would even be worth it. Maybe I should just start a "Veggies in the Valley" thread. ANYWHOO....I am here is Phoenix proper, doing my year-round, 3-seasons gardening thing. Hello to all! Laree
