    Music while gardening

Sometimes I will put on the headphones, like when I have a major weeding job to do and know I'll be spending a fair amount of time at it. I like pretty much everything but country (sorry!) but right now I'm particularly into some electronic/house type stuff. I know - strange!

    Privacy garden

I was thinking maybe a tall and thin evergreen type tree - an Italian Cypress or a thin Arborvitae variety? Would give you privacy year round and provide a nice screen without taking up lots of space. Of course it would take a few years but you could always trellis some annual vines behind...

Do you have a special name

I thought of doing this years ago, and unofficially my acreage is called Aschenhof. I came up with this as a means to honor my German heritage, it means "Ash yard" because most of my trees are Ashes. Well, at least they will be until the emerald ash borer gets here, then I guess the name will...

    Thinking about raising some chickens...

THANKS everyone!! It's so nice to get a some encouragement instead of listening to the Hub poo-poo all over my ideas. :P I have actually been reading the heck out of BYC, I didn't realize it was a sister site to this forum. How cool is that?? I will probably order some chickens from the...

    Thinking about raising some chickens...

Does anyone here raise meat chickens? I've been thinking hard about trying it for quite a few years now. Does anyone have some good advice for a beginner? I was thinking of starting small, maybe getting a dozen chicks. I live on 5 acres so I would like to let them be free range if at all...

    Oh my aching Back! Help!

Sorry to hear about your back troubles. I'd go crazy if I couldn't garden! At the ripe old age of 38 I have developed bursitis in my shoulder and can really feel it after an afternoon of working in the yard. I need to learn to take it easy and let the Hub do most of the heavy work! No...

    I'm blaming it on spring

I suppose you all can blame it on me. :hide After a remarkably warm and snow-free winter, we've had an entire month of temperatures that have been a good 30 degrees above normal! The trees are leafing out and the perennials are coming up a full month early. We haven't even dipped into the...

Need a fast growing blooming vine

I'm a clematis freak so I'd say go for those. A viticella type (I'd recommend Polish Spirit) would grow nice and tall and get very full in just a couple of years. Trumpet vines are pretty and attract hummingbirds, but I don't know if they can get invasive or not - never actually grew one here...

What peppers are you growing for 2012?

I have never had any luck with peppers, except for jalapenos. They go gangbusters on me and I only grow them because I want one or two to spice up my salsa. But each year I keep trying. I have a short list; King of the North. I also grabbed a pack of mixed-color sweet peppers off the seed...

Your all time favourite Flower Plants and Why...

I love clematis. Have loved them since I was a little girl, they're just so lovely, from the bright bold bicolors to the palest of pinks, I adore them all. Even the more boring species types like Fusca - the little hairy bells are just adorable. I also love anything blue - whenever I go to...
