    I have used bamboo from my yard for stakes but last year I used t-posts to stake my tomatos to. I use regular yarn, the cheap stuff, to tie the main stalk to and a friend of mine taught me to prune the tomato to 1 leader for more tomato production and less plant.     I don't know what causes that but I get it on my green beans every year! I spray them with a mixture of granulated garlic and cayanne pepper steeped over-night then strained thru a towel. Pour into a spray bottle and add some dish soap. I just wing it for he amounts as I have lost the recipe...

    winter squash: what kind is easy to grow?

    I'm sure it's not the region, so it could be my soil maybe. What would good squash soil be like? Is this a ph issue? I add cow manure every year and have added enough sand for good drainage. I tried waltham butternut and only got one mature fruit from 3 or 4 plants and that was at the very end...
