One final quick note on the CEC and aluminum. A soil can contain large amounts of Al and still be healthy, as long as the pH is high enough. Al isn't soluble in soil until the pH is acidic enough to make it so. A pH of 5.2 or lower is usually needed for Al to become soluble in the soil. Just food for though.
