Bluejay77, I am requesting the Bambarra Nut and the Jugo beans. After @TheSeedObsesser gave us some more information about them, I read up on them. They are intriguing to say the least. The long growing season makes me a good candidate for success in growing them. The heat here is pretty intense and from what I have read, they should feel right at home. :lol:

We usually don't get a killing frost until November or December, so I should be able to get a crop of them. Beans growing underground like peanuts---who knew?

For the bean from your website, I choose the Giant Red Tarka.

Just fair warning; the red bean in the picture of the Jugo looks like it might be an ordinary cowpea; not a Bambarra. So if that one (or one like it) winds up in your sample, Baymule be prepared; that one may not go to ground.

Russ, the beans arrived safely today. They'll get planted here in about 2 weeks when we're reasonably past our last frost (if the weather will decide to play fair now.) The Star 2054 are the smallest bean seeds I've seen. Do you know if they are naturally pink, or were they one of the varieties that were treated to help germination?

Hi Journey,

The Star 2054 is a white seeded snap bean. Those seeds have a antibacterial coating on the seeds to aid in germination. The theory is the coating will kill any bad bacteria that might harm the little plant as it starts to grow. Suppossedly giving it a healthier start in life. I think the variety is a bean that was commercial in South Africa and might be being discontinued from being sold there.

The ones you will send 25 seeds of each back are Woza Sugar bean, Lazy Housewife red, Cape Sugar Bean, and Brazlian Black.

Russ, I'm back from seeing my granddaughter so feel free to send those seeds anytime. No great hurry. I'm still a couple of weeks away from planting them. I'm building some cages similar to Marshall, but mine are for rabbits, not gophers. I'll make sure the ground is warm enough by planting some of my production beans first. When they come up, I'll trust planting yours.

By tomorrow I should have all the Beans planted once. The 25 feet of the south row should get those last 17 varieties in, plus a second planting of the African Beans.

That same row has another 15 feet that will be ready simultaneous with the last 25 foot long bed. Since that last 25 foot bed has the highest part of netting over it, that will be where the second planting of the pole beans will go.

The last 15 feet of that south bed will get the second planting of the outcross varieties.

Once those areas are done, I will begin putting the beds in the back section together fast as possible. I scavenged the soil out of them to make it deeper in the rest of the garden, but I have access to more soil. Those back beds will get some varieties planted either a second or a third time.

I have Beans sprouting! Mostly getting good germination too! A few are being slow, but there's still time. The plants will have more room on average than before.

Weather has cooled off just a bit, but not bad at all. 3 nights in a row have gotten down to 45, just chill enough to slow germination and growth some.

I'll see if this posts on my first try...
