Except for the red one, these are sweet onions!

I have to admit that the university information where they list Ovation as a "sweet," has it at the bottom of the list for sugars. Still, it's fairly sweet . . . and, I used the last one only about 2 weeks ago!

The Walla Walla s don't last nearly as long but good attention to curing means that they last about twice as long as their supposed 2 months. I guess that's how I'm getting the WW's to December. Curing and a good environment for onions in the basement.

Oh, is that a new method you have for spring onions Steve? You pre sprout them? ;)

Actually that's pretty impressive to have onions that haven't rotted in storage by April!

Yeah, mine are gone by Christmas. That's why I chop and freeze them, I can't store them that long fresh. My garlic started sprouting about a month ago and I still have sweet potatoes, but onions, nope, no way.

Somewhere on TEG I posted a picture of an onion from the basement in the summer. Might have been in 2013, or 2012.

It sure wasn't a sweet onion, tho'. The longest keepers for me are from the sets I buy. I just have to be sure that there are some for long-term storage.

The basement room must be a fairly good environment for the things. That onion was usable!
