Late freeze tonight...what to expect.

@journey11 and @lesa, old man winter just doesn't want to let go of you. I feel guilty for complaining all day about the 48 degree weather and wind that we're having. Maybe I'm not so bad off! Hope the good weather finds you soon.

Shorts and t-shirt? Hey, I wear shorts and t-shirts, too. Used to wear flip-flops but I can't keep something like that on my feet anymore. Back in the day, we called them "thongs" but that name is used for something else now.

The shorts and t-shirt are worn under fleece and denim. I'll stop wearing the t-shirt for several months each year. Can almost guarantee it . . .

@kathiesgarden , at least we are getting some rain with the 48° days. Another 70° afternoon is in the forecast for next week!

I am watching for that great sunny weather to return. The work outside is piling up because I'm a wimp and don't work outside the greenhouse when it's cold. Have you frozen where you are lately? We've been close, but have escaped. I don't have much outside yet besides green onions and lettuce.

I may just be complaining more. :p Our weather has been nice in between the unusual lows.

We got out easy with just a light frost, which didn't affect anything of mine since I have held back on planting most things out. I think the thing I despise most about this weather is that it is setting me behind on everything right from the start. I hate feeling behind! And I'm totally ready to kick all the plants out of my sunroom so I can find my craft supplies again. :\

You know, I was so worried that it would freeze with 30mph winds yesterday morning. It didn't quite freeze and, mercifully, no 30mph winds!

The day before, the low was officially 36° but the neighborhood roofs were covered with frost. That has happened again and again this month.

When the airport has a forecast of anything below 38°, a frost on the neighbor's roof is likely. I doubt if there has been more than 7 or 8 April mornings without frost on that neighbor's roof! (I'm thinking of asking him to move.)

I had the same thing happen in 2012. We had this really warm Spring, all of my fruit trees had budded by the end of March, and it looked like we were going to warm up and have summer by May 1st. Then, about April 20th and 21st we had two HARD FREEZES. I got:
no cherries
no pears
no peaches
8 apples (from long established trees)
My 5 grape vines looked dead as a doornail, and then they came back. Even the local experts were surprised at THAT.
LAST YEAR, my fruit trees broke 9 branches bc of the overload.
So...sorry about THIS year, but next year you'll need to prune the blossoms and the young fruit to save you limbs. You'll also want to think about pruning off all parts of your trees that could be stressed by a heavy fruit load.
You know without pruning these trees go feast or famine, and the pruning evens this out. I knew this...in my head...but I never did ANYTHING about it, until last year.
Nothing you can do about the loss. At LEAST you aren't living off of a fruit orchard harvest!! Some folks in places like New York State lost whole crops in 2012.
