Carol, I never knew that about corn. If they are putting out that much water per day, does that mean that you have to constantly water it?

What we call transpiration, right? People perspire; plants transpire.
So, using NOAA's calculator (LINK): the other day here when it was 101°f , with 12% humidity ... it was 96°, according to the heat index. So, that's a problem?

12% humidity? I don't think I've ever been in 12% humidity. Is that like a dehydrator?

@ninnymary No way to water the corn. Farmers often pray for rain. There are acres and acres of corn. No irrigation .

Here is what Wikipedia says about relative humidity: "Humans can be comfortable within a wide range of humidities depending on the temperature — from thirty to seventy percent - but ideally between 50% and 60%."
The average relative humidity thru July of last year was 36%.
Now, this isn't a desert but only because there is winter snow and spring/fall rain. Trees grow here! Now, you take a desert community like "Thermal" California ... July last year, the average relative humidity was 36% ... oh.

Yeah, that's how our summers usually are. When you walk outside and your glasses fog up, you know it's humid.@so lucky It was 91 degrees with 83% humidity today. You could swim in it. I think 12% sounds so nice! Around here when it is hot it is also humid. I won't do the math. I do not want to know just how bad it feels. I KNOW how bad it is out there.

We are close to the Gulf of Mexico, plus there is the largest man made lake in Texas just a few miles from here. Lots and lots of humidity-all the time! Winter, summer, fall, spring.......
I washed the patio glass doors Monday morning, it was so gooey outside that the glass wouldn't dry.

Right now we are at 82F, with 23% humidity. nicest it's been for weeks. But with that low humidity, the garden dries out really quickly
