Luckily enough ...

I will see the garden tomorrow. Hope the corn isn't flat. I think the neighbor would have texted if it was. The sprinklers were on there more than 48hrs ago so the plants weren't standing in soggy soil.

The 40mph wind we had that broke the tree branch, laid the corn over but it was upright by yesterday. Dang, I've had 5 boards helping that poor little tree with its load of fruit. I'll go out now and see if I can get it back on the roof ... about half the branch is still attached but it jumped off the board and is now hanging straight down.

So, where is this rain?? Hope the fires didn't just get a blast of air and no rain.

Steve

Really Steve? It looks like you hadn't got any rain at 6:30...
we were a b s o l u t e l y pummelled!!

At 4:00 I was planting ground cover right next to Hayden Lake, when I looked up the southern sky was dark and scary looking.
I wondered why all the nincompoops on the lake were still out there squirreling around! After the first flash, they scattered for shore. Me too, I loaded up and it started raining as I drove out.
The storm raced me home, it was pouring and lightening was flashing above and around me continuously. The trees were whipping wildly and I wondered if the young maples on my driveway would snap.

We lost power until midnight. My corn is tipped, but not flat.
I sure hope that some of that deluge was dumped on Washington. :\

Wenatchee airport had right at 1/3". Cd'A 2/10". Spokane, not even 1/10".

Wind gusts above 30mph again and temperatures in the low 60's at noon! I was wearing 2 shirts and could hardly keep my hat on in the garden. My poor tomatoes are all growing in one direction this year!

I hope the (much lower) temperatures are of help with the fires.

Clouds have names but I can never remember them.

This was the cloud that drifted over the garden about 5 hours before the storm. I was waiting for the storm because the weather service told me to be but I have a feeling that if I knew my clouds, I'd have been even better prepared.

I'm curious how many neighbors will turn on their furnace this morning. My indoor thermometers are inaccurate but I'm ready to "go back to the blanket."

It was 48° yesterday morning but all the wind at below "room temperature" the last 2days has cooled the built environment. (I've used up my quota of quotation marks ;).)

inciweb.nwcg.gov doesn't want to load the Carlton Complex fire this morning. ... oh, there it is. Weather-started about 10 days ago, minimal spread because of rain and low temperatures in the last few days. So, the local nature of that recent storm may have been broadly positive in the natural environment. It's wonderful that the Panhandle forest has a low rating for fire danger this morning!

Back to the 90's Sunday and continuing. No throwing butts out the windows please!

The largest fire in the NW is the largest fire in Washington State history.

55% contained.

400 square miles.

300 homes burned.

@thistlebloom do you hear anything from your kid #1? What is the fire situation and did the rain help any?

Sorry Bay, we've been gone, I'm sitting in the Phoenix airport right now typing this.
No, I haven't heard from him. he had texted his girlfriend (priorities you know) a week or so ago, but had no way to charge his phone, so nobody has heard. He's due home later this week I think.
Thanks for thinking of him.:hugs

Back to back triple digitS, the last 2 days at the nearest weather station. Here is what will amaze you: there was a 60° morning in between.

The 10% humidity and absence of cloud cover made this possible. We may well not have a 70° daily low this year.

The wheat harvest is in high gear. I guess I won't be hoping for rain just yet - I will continue to try to do a good job with the lawn and garden sprinklers!
