I am always looking for good science data to help me understand my gardens - and why things grow better in some places than others etc. I found this awesome free tool to get data on the soils on my place in Maine. It took me a little while to work out how to use the system to get what I wanted - and developed this guide for others. It is not complex..but a few tricks can help you get information quickly!

If I was buying a place, I would use this tool to see what I was getting into!

Hope this helps people

Cheers

i use app soil web. punch one button, it tells you about makeup of ground you are standing on.

another great free app is "fert.Removal". now for gardens, you have to do math as it wants readings per acre.

if plant tomatoes in 3' X 3' area, same as 4800 plants per acre. if harvest 50#/plant, 120 tons/acre. use .06# of N/plant sulfur surprised me. if use 12-12-12, each plant uses 1/2# of fertilizer on nitrogen. potash, its roughly 1#.
