Our ancient grape vines have put on a bumper crop this year, and so I feel compelled to pick them and strain out the juice. So I was wondering when the best time to harvest is: morning or evening? Does it make a difference as to the sweetness, like when to cut a flower? Am I overthinking it?

We are surrounded by wineries and I've noticed the grape picking usually happens in the mornings, if that helps. If I bump into one of the local farmers I'll ask him your questions and let you know what he said.

Bay, they were here when we moved into the house 22 years ago. I have never done anything with them, other than cut them back to stubs when they got in my way. They are very dark bluish purple, penny sized, with seeds, and kind of a tough skin. Most of the time they get brown rot (I think) and that ruins them, but this year, that didn't happen much, and there was a big crop. I think I will cut them in the morning, and run them through the food mill. I can freeze the juice and make jelly later, I guess.

I have concord. I will make Jelly and Juice. I am hoping my friend has some grapes this year he keeps getting closer and closer to cutting them out. The vines are very very old. My vines are only 3 years old so this year is the best crop ever. Jelly and juice here i come!
