In our case the ph was high, we knew that, when we tested, that confirmed without surprise.

I was surprised to see that the well in the mountains had a high ph, the acid from the trees seems to take care of that. The duff and soil is well balanced, so say the plants, I'm satisfied with that.

The girls have a ph meter from school projects.

Unless you have a reason to think there are heavy metals in the soil, it would be my suggestion to go with "S5" You know whether your soil is sandy or clayish.

Aren't you moving soon? I would just do the basic $12 one. You will not be living there long enough to worry about long term soil building.

I need to get this done this year, too. Our local county extension service does this, but I don't know if they are as complete as this company you reference is. Guess I can call and find out.

It looks like Washington State Extension still does not do their own soil tests.

@AMKuska, you are so close to Puyallup -- that is where WSU does (or, did) just about 99% of their garden research. If you made a call to the extension office there to talk with their master gardeners, you'd probably get all sorts of help. Stop in and check things out, if you have a little time.

I'm gonna be stuck with store bought compost/fertilizer and coffee grounds mixed with bagged garden soil cause i thought we were moving till just recently and I'm doing a container garden cause we rent. if id gotten my chickens last year id be using chicken coop clean outs.
