I think you have received some very good comments so far. If I were you guys I would explain your situation to your friends and simply let them know that it's sometimes expensive to enjoy the really good things in life. They can make up their own mind if they want to buy it or not.

Apparently I'm good at that. We have learned letting it sit to long makes it over carbonated and gross. He (really my 9 year old) makes ginger ale too. It has a tendency to go bad if you don't watch it. She thinks it's great fun making her own soda. My son (5) likes to help manke cream soda because no matter what you do you smell like it for days.
