my sister's plants seem to have a wavy leaf edge the last time i saw them. i couldn't tell if the pic showed ripples or chiseling on the edges. i think it is was Hoodat posted.

That is definitely not holly. Looks like the azalea family to me. Perhaps wild mountain laurel?

Looks like Yaupon Holly which grows in the eastern part of central Texas.

It could be Camphor laurel, {seedObsessed} does it ever get a berry, first green that purple. They become a tree if permitted.
