Yes, I make ginger ale a few times a week. It is a piece that came from the ginger we purchase at the market.

How do you make Ginger ale?

I slice fresh ginger, add lemon peel and boil it into a tea, then add sugar to make a syrup, when cooled I add vanilla extract. We have a unit to carbonate water using CO2 cylinders that were intended for paint ball guns. They can be filled at Dick's sporting goods for about four dollars. Add the syrup and lemon juice to the carbonated water and you have ginger ale, for a few cents a quart. Ava loves it, she calls it Pop's Lala, why I never knew.
