Do they wander that much when they have their own "work" or is it just not having a job that gets them wandering?
I think you are right, the are LGD's and really need a purpose. Or they get bored! Those I see several miles out of town have sheep and llama's to tend. The fencing could easily be breached by the dogs but they never wander off.

I love the giant breeds, always though pyrenees beautiful. I read they are bad wanders and need fenced acreage, how big is your yard?

Our yard is a fairly large backyard, not acres for sure. My grandparents had Great Pyrenees on a 3/4 acre lot. But the dog was in a much smaller area most of the time.

Cherokee... is a "house dog" it is too hot here in the summer for him to be anywhere but inside. We go for long walks, and play in the park early early in the am. everyday. Then after the sun goes down we play catch, or "Keep Away" different games to help him run off any extra energy. One thing about these big guys, they really don't need a lot of exercise. They are for the most part very calm and reserved. Cherokee is never out of our sight, unless he is in his "night night bed", so "wandering" would not be a problem for us.

That is an old photo from back in April... He is much bigger now! Once he is out of "puppyhood" I plan to see if being a Therapy Dog is something he would enjoy, he really likes people, and a is very laid back sort of fellow. Right now his main job is "watching Mama"....
