I have used a electric mattress pad for years... when I couldn't get true waterbeds
anymore I went to the heated style mattress pad I have had the blankets but with the arthritis so bad in back and knees the pad can be
the difference between me sitting up to put feet on the floor
or more my face on the floor

We had our first frost last night. We left 2 windows open and the temp in the house actually went up 2 degrees. When I built this house 30 years ago, I insulated really well.

I will try the furnace soon to make sure it works okay, but to actually turn it on for heat will probably be 2 - 4 weeks away.

We also have very thick insulation in the walls and good solar gain. It has been a warm fall, but we did have a hard freeze and ended up having a fire a couple of times.
DH likes a warm house. I don't really mind because my fingers and toes are always cold.

Buckabucka, you didn't have any snow in your area last night did you? northern NH had a few inches from what i saw on the news this morning. with all the rain we've had the past couple days i hope we're getting out of the severe drought conditions. my pond was a few inches low but with the 3-4" of rain we got from Thursday till yesterday morning it was filled to the top again.

i have chicks in the house growing out so i need to keep the heat at a temp they will be good with till i can get them out to the coop.

with the cold weather coming in they probably would have dug into the mud for the season if they didn't move to another pond/puddle that hadn't dried up.

No snow here. We thought it was snowing at one point, but it was some kind of debris being blown around out of the trees.

We need a lot more rain to counteract this drought. My friends just had a new well drilled, and our neighbor's who are on a spring just had a water tanker deliver some water. Our well only delivers a gallon and a half a minute, but it is 300+ feet deep, and no drought issues so far...
