Spring can't be that far away...

My garden outside is starting to come alive too, but yesterday I had a yard full of robins (I am the keeper of robins for all you in the north) and they do not seem to be interested in flying home yet.

    Lemon cucumber pickles

You can use regular salt but it has other minerals in it and may look a little different in color. They taste ok though, I have used it before in a pinch.

Made out your 2016 lists yet?

I am starting. I am really wanting black tomatoes this year. I grew some black cherries last year and LOVED them. It was the first time I had had one and now I am wanting MORE! Anyone have a favorite I should try?

    Hydroponics question

Jackb, I also tried something different for starting seeds. This is for small cabbages, but instead of buying the rockwool I cut up a small sponge into cubes, poked a hole in it and worked a seed into it. Placed it into some shallow water and am waiting. I just started it last night so I...

    Lemon cucumber pickles

Has anyone ever pickled a lemon cucumber? I got some lemon cucumber seeds in a grab bag purchase and have started some of the seed. I watch some youtube videos and they said they are really good cucumbers but that they don't keep well. I was just wondering if you could pickle them.

    Winter Greens

Looks good. I am getting ready to work on projects today. I put in a bed in my greenhouse. I have been neglecting my gardening because of traveling a lot with the wedding this summer and then I started by to work in August. I am on break this week and trying to get ahead of it so that it...

    Check it out.....

from your local library. Now that many people are starting to harvest and cover soil for the winter. I used to always settle down and plan for next year. Several years ago I found a really great book (written by someone in zone 5) that I loved enough to buy. Any way it is called "The...

Bumper sweet potato crop up north

I am trying to figure out when to dig mine. The vines are still green and looking great ( I think this is my first go round with sweet potatoes. Do I have to wait until they die down???? It has been really hot and dry this year but I kept them watered. Do I have to wait for a frost?

Started A Small Batch of Pickles

No it doesn't. If you take a dill pickle recipe (not a sweet one) and say it calls for a cup of salt. Decrease it to 3/4 salt and add 1/4 sugar and it really smooths out that pucker face you get. LOL Here is the one I am using this year. 7 qts pickling cucumbers 4 cups white vinegar 8...

Started A Small Batch of Pickles

I don't like sweet pickles but if you add just a little it cuts the vinegar just right. My mom never added sugar but I tried a recipe a few years ago and it was just the way I like them. I usually don't do refrigerator types pickles but I don't I saw a recipe for an open jar pickle a few years...
