What is the best way to blanch celery? I haven't planted celery for quite a while, in the past I used cardboard 1/2 gal. milk cartons. Anyone have a favorite method?

    Potato towers success?

I have enjoyed reading of your experiences. I too have tried the potato towers without the success they were supposed to have. Then I read an article about raising potatoes under leaves. I have tweaked (I guess that is the right spelling) the original process to something that has been very...

Grow Lights for seed sprouting and Growing vegetables

I use 25 & 40 watt in regular 4' flourescents and can't say that I have seen that much difference. The key is keeping them close to the plants. The pic is of a stand that I made out of 1-1/4 PVC pipe.

    who does companion planting?

I try to put my carrots in between my tomatoes (as the book says, carrots love tomatoes), can't see that I see any significant difference. I do however, plant radishes next to my cucumbers, cantaloupe and zucchini, it works very well to deter the cucumber beetle. When the radishes are ready to...

    Ground Cherries

I have grown them in the past. We always harvested them after they fall to the ground. They are great in pies, I have seen people pay $70 -80 for a pie at a benefit auction. My DW has also made muffins and put them in instead of blueberries - yummy. As some have said also be prepared for...

    Moles

I don't write very often, but I do enjoy reading all of the topics. This time however, I have to write. About two weeks ago I did a search on how to get rid of moles. They were worse this year than any since I have been gardening. I didn't want to use pesticides and someone recommended Juicy...

Steamer/ juicer Anyone ever used one?? PIC added!!

I borrowed one from a friend last year to make some grape juice. The juice that it makes is more like a concentrate. We didn't like the juice as much as our original recipe, but our friend raves about it. All I can say is give it a try.

    Victorio versus Squeezo Strainers

Ridge runner, We only have experience with a Victorio and love it. The housing for the auger is metal but the other parts are plastic. We use it mostly for applesauce and it comes right out of the pot and into the strainer with no problems. She also uses the berry screens for Blackberry &...
