    Tomatoe problem!!!

Hey folks, I may have arrived at a possible reason for my tomato quandary. Side note: some of my tomato plants are looking somewhat better nowadays and I have lots of green tomatoes out there. But I'm not sure what kind they are 🤪. I think I may have caused some cross pollination over the past...

    Tomatoe problem!!!

I really don't remember if the soil was cold or warm. My guess is that it was 60* or above.

    Tomatoe problem!!!

Hi Steve and flowerbug, it's good to hear from you folks. I have been diligent in harvesting new heirloom seeds every year and throwing away the previous year's collection. I guess I've inherited that from my dad, Smiles. I also rotate my crops every year. As far as soil condition it's the same...

    Tomatoe problem!!!

Hi everybody. I know, I know, it's been a long time. Life always gets in the way ;). I have been a gardener for many years and luckily this is the first time for this issue for me. I started my heirloom seeds at the end of February in my greenhouse. I am an heirloom seed saver for as many garden...

What do u spend on garden plants and seeds?

I'm not a flower kind of guy but each year I buy a few packets of flower seeds to keep DW smiling (I'm such a wonderful husband). For the late few years we have been planting Zinnias in our little 16'x2' annual bed across the front of our porch. They grow WAY too tall so last week I bought 3...

    A few random questions.

When the growing season gives way to fall and winter I never know what to do with my asparagus bed. There are always a few tall stalks and some late summer weeds. Do you cut the "fern looking" stalks to the ground? Do you cover the bed with leaves or mulch? My Brussels sprouts didn't do very...

What Did You Learn This Garden Season?

We have never been BIG fans of sweet potatoes and yams. But in May I decided to plant 24 starts from our local nursery. They did great! So this year I'm learning how to harvest, season, and store sweet potatoes. I didn't have the slightest idea that they need to be placed in a hot and humid area...

    My name is muck

Is that something you on a regular routine? I've never heard of giving chickens a wet bath. We sometimes sprinkle them with Bentonite Clay or Diatomaceous Earth.

    A change in their formula?

@so lucky you could be right about heat, I don't know. And it appears that the big damage has slowed down. Oh well, I was just curious.

    A change in their formula?

The bugs have been terrible! I don't like it but there are times, like now, when I feel like I'm forced to use chemicals in the gardens. Last week I purchased a bottle of "Sevin" and used it just this week. I have used it sparingly for many years. This time it looks different, smells different...

    A very interesting plant???

What is it? This volunteer showed up in one of my raised beds. I have watered it and watched it grow for almost 4 months. It has small yellow flowers, large heart-shaped leaves and the seed pods have very sharp needles. It's about 4 ft tall.

What are You Eating from the Garden?

Don't you LOVE fresh picked tomatoes from the garden? It's one of my joys of summer.

    Peach Tree help

Your advice is very wise @flowerbug. Thank you. I removed all that I could reach last Friday and I'll get some help to go up a ladder tomorrow. I just noticed today that there several small branches with brown leaves too. Aww man!!!

    Peach Tree help

I've been puzzled by my two peach trees too. I replaced two of my dad's old old old peach trees 5 years ago. The new peach trees rooted very well the first year and we're very healthy. The second spring they both had a bazillion blooms and by the middle of July I had to pick some green peaches...

What Did You Do In The Garden?

Have any of you heard about the mysterious packets of unknown seeds that have been showing up in people's mailboxes? I just read about it in the news yesterday. The U.S. Agriculture Dept. had issued a warning against planting these seeds. U.S. Intelligence is looking into the source as there...

Some things we're right about, some we're not ```

Even if I don't come to TEG often I always thoroughly enjoy ALL of the posts. Yours just puzzled me. It seems that some of our wonderful citizens in our nation have developed a very thin skin. Far too many people take offense to others' opinions for no reason. Then go straight to social media...
