    What can I plant now?

Yay! I finally have some time to plant a garden! I am thinking to dig up one of my 4 X 8 raised beds and put in some late-summer veggies. I am in Zone 5. What do you think?

I got a green house for my birthday--what do I do with it?

Awesome map, digitS! It is better than the one in my master gardener book. I like April 22 MUCH better than May 15....that could account for some of my problems. Now I will have to go through that book I mentioned with some white-out...

IS there any plant a chicken won't eat?

And if so, where can I get a lot of them?

Will I ever have a decent lawn since I got chickens?

They make such pretty lawn ornaments, I hate to pen them up. Other people in the area have both chickens and grass. How can I solve this dilemma and save my marriage?

I got a green house for my birthday--what do I do with it?

I am just north of Central Illinois, on the Kankakee River. Zone 5A, according to the Master Gardener class (Another part of my present!) It has been amazingly mild here. I got out my gardening books on New Year's Day. There has been no snow to speak of, and very few days below freezing...

I got a green house for my birthday--what do I do with it?

Fat chance! I have wanted one of these for YEARS! I tried to explain it to my husband 7 or 8 years ago, and he tried to explain it to the people at the store, and what I got was some of those little boxes with the plastic lids that you use to start seeds indoors....Nice try, honey. I ma...

It is a removable one, just the size for one of my raised beds. I want to get an early start on some veggies (zone 5). What should I pit in this thing, and how soon can I do it?

    Cat and guinea pig poop

At what point in the spring should I start looking for them? Also, will the clay in the kitty litter be a problem? The bag says it is biodegradable.

    Cat and guinea pig poop

I just looked them up on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermetia_illucens One thing it didnt tell me was, are these indigenous to the whole US? Do I have to order some larvae from somewhere or will they just show up if I leave the composter open for a few days? It seems like the...

    Cat and guinea pig poop

Oh, I love the composter idea. I'll just need to find a perfect corner in the yard!

    Cat and guinea pig poop

What a pity about the cat poop. There is so much of it, and it just goes to the land fill in the city.

    Cat and guinea pig poop

We have 3 cats who use cheap clay litter, and 2 guinea pigs who are using straw on top of pine shavings. Can I use their poop for compost in my flower beds? Hubs wouldn't eat anything grown with it, regardless of whether it's "safe" or not.

    Indoor Herb Garden

I have always wanted a small windowsill herb garden so I can get a few fresh herbs whenever I want them. Seems like winter is a good time to start this, right? I have tried a few times to start indoor herb gardens, but have never had any luck. One time my cat dug it up, another time...
