Last year I planted a sunflower house, using the pattern I found in the book "Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots". I used three different sizes of sunflowers and morning glories like the instructions said and it was a total flop. Well, the mammoth sunflowers came up gloriously but none of the other two sizes and only one or two of the morning glories. I assumed it was from lack of moisture but since we had a flood in June, it couldn't have been that. Has anyone actually had one of these grow?

trust me, even one morning glory can multiply into hundreds over the next two years!! It took me several years to pull them all out of my garden!!!

I have never heard of such a thing! I am a great lover of sunflowers and morning glories. I sprout all of mine inside and transplant. If I just soak morning glories and stick them in the ground they never come up. Then the birds are off digging up the sunflower seeds. I just skip all of that and start them in jiffy pots.

Hi everyone! I haven't had any problem growing sunflowers or morning glories before but then I haven't grown them together before. To do a sunflower house you till up an area a foot or two wide in the shape of a open-ended rectangle, 8x8'; plant the sunflowers together to form the wall. Morning glories are supposed to climb the sunflowers and then you train them to go across the open area above to form a roof. (The book suggested training the vines across on string but I never got that far.) The mammoth sunflowers did really well and once they began to be eaten by some type of caterpillars, the other two sizes of sunflowers came up. I think out of the two packs of morning glory seeds I planted only three came up. I was just curious if anyone had ever grown one to look like a house.
