I sometimes wonder what our cities were like when transportation relied on horses. However, even 112 years ago, many American cities had electric streetcars ... Some, started out steam powered! Good Heavens! Can you imagine the noise?!

What is that material the horses were walking on, boards? Were the streets dirt?

Mary did you attend that parade? ;) I was wondering how close it was to your house. Your house was probably brand new back then.

Steve I wonder the same thing. There is a Johny Depp movie gangs of Ny that does a great job recreating old NYC. The Heiress is another movie, takes place at washington square in village. I used to go to the park often in my younger days , would try and figure out which house movie was filmed at.
