Hello all, so glad i found this forum. I have spring fever so bad, but right now it looks like the picture below around my house.
Picture 045.jpg

I love growing beans! They are like little gems. I have over 90 varieties, but have only planted about 60 of them so far. I tend to get obsessed with them.

I like to sort out those that look different from the normal ones and grow them on their own to see if it is truly a cross or just a normal trait.

I also love to grow corn, but out here in Nebraska it is impossible for me to collect to use as seed, as I never have the time to cover each one and hand pollinate them. Plus the gene pool is so limited when that is done.

Anyway, love reading everyone's posts! B

Thanks, Lori

I saw your bean thread post first, or else I would have had my question answered here. :) Welcome to TEG! You are in good company here as we have many folks who will aid an abet you in your bean obsession. :D I used to collect beads about 10 years ago...somehow beans were not a far stretch from that. ;)

Be sure to keep an eye out for the new bean network thread that will come out here in a couple of months. It's a good way to add to your collection while helping Russ at the same time.

Hi, Lori! Welcome to the forum. I guess with snow cover, you can't even go out to the garden and smell the soil, can you? At least I can still do that here.
I think you will love chatting with the folks on this forum.

from VA!
No snow here (yet) and hopefully we avoid a mess of snow/ice this year.
How much have you gotten there?

So sorry for your spring fever. You have a long way to go before you get relief. Indoor gardening is a good cure. I will be starting pepper and artichoke seeds in Feb. Unless I can't wait until then. Welcome. What zone are you in?

Thanks everyone for the welcome,
I am in zone 5a and we just had another 3 inches over night. It has been a wetter than normal winter here with good snow cover, but not as bad as some areas of the country.

:frow Hi, Lori. Welcome to the forum. It's good to see you jumping right in. :frow No need to be shy. We generally don't bite in public, at least with new members. :hide

I understand those urges. I've started kale and chard seeds already. By the time they are big enough I should be able to set them out for early greens here. It won't be that long before I start some sweet potatoes for slips and in about a month I'll start my warm weather seeds, eggplant, pepper, and tomato. It's not the same as getting your hands dirty though.
