Hi~ We've a leaking hydrant~ Leaks with handle down~ Big R ranch supply has a kit for the Merrill C 1000```

When you've repaired them~ have you cleaned up the seat that is underground~ maybe by putting grinding compound on the plunger and working it like a Valve Seat??????? Or just installed the new valve rubber on the end of the rod and put it together```

Thanks

Richard

My husband repaired one of ours. He is a big guy and needed another to open it up with 2 pipe wrenches. ((or whatever they are called.) Go to u-tube and someone will have posted just what to do for just your model.

Yeah, check online for the repair for that model, assuming you don't have some kind of paperwork with it. Anymore paperwork is rare, they just give a website if you are lucky. Maybe they will have a chatroom or something with experienced people with that model.

I've got a Woodford. I checked for the model and the repair was not a replace but I had to take a couple of nuts off and rotate something 180 degrees then put it back together. It was actually pretty easy. It did reduce the output pressure noticeably but it stopped water dripping through the nozzle, spigot, whatever the proper term is. And that leak developed over a year after it was installed.

Since I did not go through that with the Woodford I can't help you much. When it first started leaking I was sure I was going to have to, quite a relief to find differently.

Here is what he said. The directions say to clean it--he wiped it off as it was very gross-did not do a great job. (Boy I m surprised.)When you take the unit out, sometimes you can just adjust it and it will not leak any more. He replaced the rubber thing. He is not actually sure what you mean by the seat. This does not seem like much help to me-hope it is.

Hi cat, You said he replaced the rubber thing~ I'm sure he's talking about the actual valve on the end of the rod~ the rod may be 4' long ~ that valve~ that the "washer" let's call it ~ is pressed against a seat that has the hole in it and closes off the water intake~ which is several feet underground~ if he had cleaned the seat he would have know what I meant~ so that means to me people don't work on the seat but just replace the rubber at the end of the rod and the packing at the top where the handle is~ So again~ I'll do the same```

Thanks for taking the time to ask him~ thank him for me~ I'm in the mountains mining firewood~ I'll be down there in a couple days and work on the hydrant then~ I try to remember to take with me a couple 36" pipe wrenches~ I have a torch down there to heat the cast handle where it joins the down pipe```

Richard

You mentioned: "Just adjusting" I'll try that first```
