    I need pear canning recipes!!!!

I have like a million pears this year, and I want to can them. I have a great recipe for cinnamon pears and a recipe for just your basic canned pears. Does anyone have any other recipes for any other kind of canned pears? Can a person make pear sauce? (Like apple sauce)??? Any way, I would...

    Raised beds

I am wanting to have 4 raised bed gardens for next spring. However, I would like to build the beds now, and fill them with my special soil mix so next spring I could just plant. Is it ok to put my soil in now or should I wait until next spring to fill the boxes? Also I want to put weed barrier...

    raised bed gardening

Is that pea gravel kind of expensive? I bet it does look great though. Do you buy it by the ton, or get it in the bags at the nursery? I bet what you did keeps the weeds down good. Sounds like what I need to do. Our bind weed is soooo bad here.

Your opinions on types of food dehydrators, please

I wouldn't use anything except a Excalibur. They are pricey but well worth the extra cost. They are safer than those round dehydraters too, because they have the heat source and fan in the back of the machine, so all shelves get equal heat. They also dehydrate 10 times faster than the round...

    raised bed gardening

Oh, also... can anyone tell me what to do with the paths or spaces between the beds? How do you keep the weeds out? Do you put that black weed barrier down? Using a 6" thick mulch alone over newly turned soil isn't enough here, because we have so much bind weed. Any suggestions? I want them to...

    Does anyone here grow Stevia?

I grew some stevia last year, just in a pot. In answer to your question, why couldn't you just dehydrate it? Do you have a food dehydrator? If not you could dehydrate it on a cookie sheet in the oven for 3-4 hours at a low temp of like 105 degrees. After dehydrating it you could then crush it...

Canning on a smooth top range?

I have a ceramic top stove, and I can on mine all the time with no problems. I use a pressure cooker and the water bath type canner as well. I have never had any problem with either not getting hot enough.
