I am a senior "backyard specialist", a true organic midwesterner transplanted into the Monterey Peninsula area of California. I live on a 6 1/2 acre plot of scrub oaks and pines, 10 minutes inland from the Pacific Ocean. There is a small 128 plant vineyard of Pinot Noir, a pasture for horses and many gorgeous crooked scrub oak trees that prompted me to give the place the name, "Crooked Tree Meadows." My landscaping preference is natural versus formal.....rocks, little berms and gentle slopes.....anything to make an area look like God might have put it there.
I am learning the secrets to keeping things alive, healthy and loving life in this micro climate of the Pacific Coastline, a seat-of-the-pants education to be sure.
The grape berries are just beginning to show, so my challenge now is to get the watering right so I will have sweet, plump fruit come this October. Later I will try to remember to post some pics and updates of the goings on at Crooked Tree Meadows.
