I use the time released stakes in my "container garden." I have herbs and roses just to name two, which I use the time released with and they are perfect for what it sounds like you're doing. Forgo the fertilizer in my opinion.

Chickpeas and Olive oil. So simple, yet so delicious. I make my own but there are a lot of store bought brands out there that are excellent. I have a bunch of recipes from Food and Wine and Martha Stewart that are super simple and easy to make.

I love fermenting my own tomato seeds and enjoy saving tomato seeds and growing our own tomatoes at home from them. Home-saved tomato seeds are a wonderful gift to tuck into a holiday card for when you want to add a "little something extra", or to share with friends and neighbors.

Yeah I have some container plants on my front porch and this past spring I decided to move some roses into the container to see how well they would do. Turned out beautiful and had several people compliment us on our front porch.
