Totally blown away by what my husband comes home with sometimes....

They picked me up a flat of Marigolds while I was working and then I see a little pink pot on the kitchen table. When I touched it all the leaves just folded right up! Turns out the DD found a Mimosa Pudica 'sensitive plant' and its going in her NEW fairy garden the husband has decided to make.

Nice find, your daughters new fairy garden will be unique! I think it's sweet that your dh is making her a fairy garden too.

When I was a kid I met a sensitive plant at the San Diego botanical garden, it was a most amazing thing. Still is. :)

I've heard of the sensitive plant too, but I haven't had one yet. It must be really cool to see the leaves move like that.
You should show it to some people, but don't tell them its a sensitive plant. It would be interesting to see their reaction when the leaves fold up!

Thanks for posting this! ;)

They are fascinating. I was able to observe some on an ecology walk back in Jr. High! (I am not telling you how LONG ago that was.) ;) Cool plant for a fairy garden. :)

I think its even neater that it blooms!

We actually have the Mimosa trees around here, so this is kind of a mini relative to those. The hummingbirds love them! So I hope they like this one.

Hubby has already mapped out the new fairy garden bed for this. Its going to be multi-tiered. He'll even add houses and a water feature. I think its over kill, and that's what happens when I'm not around to control the situation.

I have a HUGE mimosa that draws in the hummers when its in full bloom (they nest up in it) and I'm sure its 60-70 years old (its in my nextdoor neighbor's yard but reaches over to mine (80 feet wide and been trimmed). But that sensitive plant is too cool. That WILL be perfect for the fairy garden.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a full grown Mimosa tree that did the sensitive plant thing? Man, that would be a tree in motion!
