Red's world in pics

It was suggested, so here goes. Come visit my world through the days, through the seasons, through the years in Red heaven. All these pictures are north of the house.

Here's the front garden. So proud of the Japanese Maple...and Daphine...


Here's a view from the turn-around through the butterfly garden toward the road.


Connor's Memorial Butterfly Garden is below. It is early in the making.

South of the butterfly garden in the front yard proper are these flowering crab trees. The tall shrub in the center is a mock orange.


Here is the mock orange in bloom.

There is an area of lilac shrubs west of the volunteer flowering crab tree. I have dug out most of the lilacs and moved them to a row south and west of the house. I have dreamed of the scent of lilacs wafting in on the spring breezes for many years. This year should be the first.
The two tall trees among the lilacs are sweet 'bing' cherry trees. I have never gotten a cherry from either tree, but the cedar waxwings leave their form of thank you's every year.

Still north of the house below and south of the mock orange is a bed of daffies, tulips, and squill. You can tell by the rectangular shape that DH creat ed this bed even if I chose the plants.

You have a very beautiful place there, Red. I can tell a lot of thought and work has gone into it! Your flowerbeds have such nice, relaxed lines (except for your DH's maybe, lol.) Your yard must make for such a pleasant stroll. That first bed is my favorite. I love the combination of foliage colors and textures and the different clumps are so well placed.

What a nice, big mock-orange you have there too. They are one of my favorite old-fashioned plants. My mom had one when we were little and I remember how lovely it smelled.

Did you see many butterflies visiting your memorial garden last year? We didn't have nearly as many here and those that did show came late in the season. I can usually count on hatching a couple of rounds of swallowtails each year in my DD6's butterfly house, but we only spotted a few caterpillars once and thought it best to leave them alone.

Thank you Red! I love strolling through gardens! Connor's Butterfly garden is so pretty, cottage borders are my favorite. Very inspiring and wonderful ideas in your yard! I would never want to go in the house.

I dream of Azaleas like that, I struggle to grow just a couple.

Very nice! I love lilacs, too. Finally got my own last year--or was it two years ago? and I really like flowering crabs, too. I bet the gardens smell great.

Gorgeous! You're really dedicated to dig the lilacs and move them...how big were they when they were moved??

Red, everything is just beautiful. You sure have a lot of grass that looks perfectly green. I'm guessing those gardens are years in the making? How many hours a week do you spend maintaining them?

Very impressive. Although after seeing your beautiful flower beds, the manicured grass was anti-climatic.
