Anyone ever make tomato juice?

The directions i have say to cook the tomatos down in a pot.What i don't know, and it doesn't say, is,do i need to mix any water with the tomatos or do i jist put 'em in the pot alone and cook 'em that way ?

Or, scrape all the pennies (lots and LOTS of pennies!) out of the sofa cushions and buy a Vita-mix :)

Pat, still many pennies shy of getting one, but it would be nice

:lol: :lol: :lol: I'm with you, Pat! Although, I think it may make the juice a little more thick than I would like...little too much pulp! Way better for you, though.

I really wish you girls wouldn't tease me with kitchen TOOLS i can't have. :p
Not all tools belong in the 'grage ya know. :D

If you put water in the pan don't put much. Maybe 1/2 cup to a large kettle of tomatoes.
I don't put any water in mine. I quarter the tomatoes and put them on medium heat. Stir once in a while to make sure they aren't sticking to the bottom of the pan. If you need any more help just ask.

I was readin the instructions fer my strainer and it says to quarter and run the maters thru it raw and then cook 'em. We have one o' those Villa-ware strainers that ya crank the handle on and it separates all the juice and flesh from the skins and seeds and it says to cook the maters after this process.
Oh i'm soooo confused :barnie lol
Any advice you give us will absolutely be greatly appreciated.

Cook your tomatoes first. This will make it easier to run them thru. Then you can run them thru your collander(strainer). When I run them thru I always put the juice in a kettle so I can heat it to a boil and then put it in jars. If you are putting it in quart jars you will add 1 teaspoon of salt per quart. Place lids and rings on and cold pack for 40 minutes.
It really isn't hard. Some books make it sound hard. If you have any more questions just ask. Always happy to help.:)

Here is what I do
Quarter tomatoes and cook
When they are soft and mushey I use my hand blender and stir, stir, stir every thing till there are no large pieces left, then I put the juice through my foley food mill. This takes out seeds and any tomato skins that did not get choped up.

In each quart I put 2 talblspoons lemon juice, 1 teaspoon each of salt, granulated garlic, and sugar and process in bwb.

It does make a lot of pulp which DH loves, nice thick tomato juice for his Red Beer.

I core mine and put them in a large cooking pot.

Set it on the floor and let my DS get his arms in clear to his elbows and squeeze and smash the daylights out of them. Then I cook them. Then I run them through the juicer.
