I just placed my 1st order for apple trees. I am trying to go with the most disease resistant to my area. I ordered 5 Liberty on 111rootstock for fall planting. I am also going to order goldrush and willam"s pride on 111 for spring planting. The 111 rootstock is supose to be best for clay. Going to plant on mounds of good soil. Ordered from bruntridge, Trees I got from them always did great for me.

I have read to plant trees in native soil because when the roots leave the area that you have filled with good soil they stop growing well. That sounds stupid to me however. How could they not thrive in amended soil?

Oh boy, that's exciting! I looked up your trees and the Liberty especially sounds like a good one. Developed in your own state too!

The website Orange Pippin is a mine of expert advice. Thanks to @journey11 for sharing that with us. Just about anything you need to know is covered there.

NYboy, when you have learned to make the apple items that Bay suggested, just send ALL of them to me to taste test.
