I have been bitten several times by small wasps while I am out and about in my garden or working with my chickens. About 24 hours after the bite, quite a large area around the bite area will swell, redden, feel very hot and itch like crazy. This can go on for more than a week.

What do you use for these bites? I really would like to find an alternative to antihistimines. Thanks for your experience.

You can use tobacco juice, ammonia,or a paste made from baking soda and water. There are several other remedies. But the best is the baking soda to me.

I use tobacco juice. Break about a 1/2 inch off a cigarette. I am not a smoker so I have to bum one. Wet the tobacco and put on the spot and cover with a bandage.

Hopping around screaming seems to work for me.

Your best option in this instance is to find the Nest Of Evil and spray it with the kind of wasp killer that can shoot a long stream from a distance.

MUD! As soon as you get stung, apply a layer of mud on the area and let it dry there. As it does, it draws the bee's poison out. I never believed it until a few years ago when I got into an argument with a hornet nest. I had 15-20 stings on my arms, neck, and face. Someone that was with me dug under the mulch in a flower bed and grabbed the wet soil underneath and spread it all over my arms and neck but I wouldn't let him do my face. About an hour later, the 4 on my face were red, swollen, and still painful, but my arms and neck showed no sign of a reaction. I became a believer that day.

You might try a sea salt bath. When I was a small kid, I got to go camping and gathering with my grandparents. We'd go to the ocean. Mosquitos get me something awful. But, I started to notice, that after wading in the ocean looking for clam holes, the itching stopped completely. Maybe some sea salt mud.

Be careful with multiple stings. The first one is okay, but sometimes future bites get progressively worse. Watch the swollen area carefully to make sure the swelling isn't spreading. Later bites can trigger an allergic reaction.
I too had multiple run-ins with wasps this summer. I found the Nest of Evil ( ) and annihilated it with the spray, but then ran into yellowjacket issues. I finally just gave over the garden and bought my produce at the store. Figured it was easier than an ER visit.

Good luck!
