Green peppers with one red

I planted some peppers this year that (as far as I know) should be a green variety. They are California Wonders from Bakers Creek (heirlooms). I pulled all my plants up last week and found one pepper had turned red! When I cut it open there were no seeds inside (it tasted fine). I'm wondering if these were red peppers and I harvested them too early all summer. And what's up with no seeds??? Any ideas?

Maybe they are a new seedless hybrid variety? Did your green ones have seeds?

I think if you leave a green pepper on a plant long enough, it will eventually turn red as it fully matures. I could be wrong, but I have seen signs of green peppers turning red when they get fairly large.

My Cal Wonders turn red when ripe. Mine have seeds though.

Okay... Now I really feel stupid. I never knew that green peppers are supposed to turn red! :rolleyes:

No feeling stupid allowed!! :) As teachers always say, there are no stupid questions. I can't believe the obvious things I learn about gardening every single year. It's what keeps it endlessly entertaining!

Back to peppers, it's really cool to find other colors, too, like green/yellow that ripens into chocolate or other really funky unripe/ripe color variations.
