I get most of mine from True Value. They sell a few brands. The Territorial seeds did well, the other brands not as good. I think it has to do with the brand of seed rather than where purchased. I imagine the big box stores tend to carry lower quality brands.

Last year I also bought from The Seed Saver's Exchange catalog. Those seeds also did well.

Because of our wet climate and short growing season over here on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state, we found the very best success getting our seeds from Territorial Seed company in Oregon.

They grow and test varieties at the Univ. of Oregon especially good for our wet gloomy climate with a short growing season. you know, resistant varieties to mildew and wet soils.

We found their seeds to be excellent choices and worth every penny. Several local garden centers carry them so you don't have to spend the extra for shipping that you pay if you order by phone or online.

The seeds from the big retailers are not meant to be good for climates like ours and are a total waste of money in my opinion.

Send a self-addressed envelope to:

WinterSown Six Pack
1989 School Street
East Meadow, NC 11554

On your envelope make sure you put 2 stamps for the seeds they send back to you!

I've sent away 3 times and have received between 9-12 packs of seeds each time. I just sent off another envelope... I was feeling guilty but I packed up an envelope of extra seeds I had to donate. I have received 5 packs of tomatoes, pole beans, spinach, brocolli and squash so far as veggies. I've just planted the pole beans and tomatoes this weekend, so I'll tell you how they do!

(Oh, and they are heirloom tomatoes!)
Do you use a regular letter size evelope or do you need a larger one for them to return seeds in?

Great question.. I sent a legal sized envelope and then wondered if it was the right size. I finally got mine sent off on Thursday.

My adventure for this year is Bakersville Heirloom Seeds. While doing an online search about Mansfield Mo. I found this pioneer village that specializes in rare seeds. I requested a catalogue and it just came the other day. It is amazing. I really can't decide on what to order I want to try all the rare stuff. It's amazing. The young man who started the catalogue has a great story.

I am so excited!!!!! :weee

I ordered all my seeds yesterday!
Over $300.00 :hide

Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds http://rareseeds.com/

Jung's http://www.jungseed.com/

And one packet of Ancho pepper seed from Burpee's http://www.burpee.com/
I compared prices between Jung's and Burpees' - Burpee's is WAY overpriced! But they sell Ancho seed and Jung's doesn't.

Last year, I ordered most of my seeds and some started plants from Territorial Seeds, but I had a horrible experience.
The plants were covered in aphids. I tried to baby them along all season, but I ended up with one pepper off of 6 plants and a very small crop of tomatos off of the Territoral Seed plants. Also I compared their prices and the exact same seeds are cheaper from Jung's or other companies.
I'm starting all my plants from seed this year, so I hopefully won't have an aphid problem.
