I'm boring it's straight 8s here. After the gherkin debacle of 2010 I went back to just buying cuke starts. Those and the burpe picklers (drawing a blank on variety). They do well and everybody likes them. I usually plant 4 of each and have plenty of them by mid summer.

However I have a bunch volunteers this year. Didn't pull them yet so will be interesting.

Good call on moisture control. I mulched mine with grass clippings and straw to keep weeds down and the cukes off the soil. I had so many I would feed the neighbors chickens by the bucketful I had so many. They'd appear and swell to size so fast I couldn't stay on top of them. Split them lengthwise and the fence over they'd go.

From then on that's been my cucumber care plan :D

This is my first year with cucumbers, and only because I got some free seeds. It is called Barese, an Italian heirloom that is really a melon that you use as a cucumber. Picked at around 6" and they are very thin skinned and very tasty. They are a little furry but that rubs off easily with a soft brush or cloth. If you let them go until later in the season they turn into a thick skinned honeydew type melon. Been enjoying them now and have designated 3 to go to melon for the seeds for next year. Very prolific and will grow it again... just not 10 plants -- maybe only 4 :).

Oh boy!

Another interesting variety that italianseedandtool.com sells and a really different cucumber.

It might have a flavor like the Armenian cucumber that I grew ... once. But, Barese is green. Much better choice for a veggie color than brown ...

Thank you for sharing, @animalmom :).

Nice!!! I've done the Marketmore 76 as well with great results too. Had to go with what I could find. Have a BUNCH of cucumber volunteers too that have popped up and I haven't had the heart to remove yet.

Those and zucchini. Have a million of them no idea where they all sprung up from since they are nowhere near I'd expect them to be.
