Greenhouse Score! $50!!

I found a greenhouse frame on Craigslist for $50 and emailed immediately. I didn't get an answer, so emailed 2 more times. Finally, he called the next day and he promised me that it was mine. Between our schedule and theirs, we finally got to go get it today. It is a galvanized pipe hoop style that is popular around here with the commercial nurseries. They are expen$ive! He said it was supposed to be 16'x40', but some of the parts are missing and some are bent, but he thought it should make a 30' greenhouse.

It is still on the trailer, we don't know where we are going to set it up yet. And it looks like we will have to clear out a briar patch, maybe cut a couple of trees...... There seems to be no clear spot for it that gets any sunshine. Plus I am trying to keep it close enough so maybe someday I can get electricity to it for grow lights. We are real excited to get the greenhouse, it is the "high tunnel" style, all we need is the plastic for it and that will cost a lot more than what we paid for the frame!

This is a project we will have to set aside for now, as we just don't have the time to clear a place for it right now. But at least we have it and it will be there waiting on us when we get the time to put it all together.

The green house film I was looking at in a Growers Supply catalog looked very reasonable for a large hoop house. We were thinking about using a carport frame that we have for a greenhouse at one point, 10 x 20, and I was surprised that it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. That was the UV protected, 4 year film. Hopefully when you get it up you can have it operational without breaking the bank.

Excellent! You are going to have a lot of fun with that. If you can run water, that is probably more important than electricity. Have fun with it!

A 16' by 40' greenhouse would be almost double the size of my 9' by 20' sunshed, Bay'!

Let me see, what could I do with 2 of mine ...

I can imagine that you could fill a garden larger than 1 acre with plant starts. It wouldn't be a stretch for that instant, outdoor garden to be even larger. In ground use would be possible. Many backyard gardens are no larger than 640 square feet.

Cooperative Extension often used 1,000 sqft as a standard for American families. I've noticed that 800sqft is sometimes used more recently.

I think I'd just plan on only setting up benches for flats on half. Of course, that may just be jealousy on my part and so that you won't have more than I have to work with at the start of your 2016 season . Have fun!

No red neck greenhouse like at your old place, nice score !!! Here is a CL tip when you see something you know a lot of people want. When you first email seller put your phone # in emailing saying you would like to buy please call. Sometimes 20 to 30 people will email about a post, by putting phone seller knows your serious.
