It's been awhile since I've been here! Life has been pretty hectic lately, but now I find myself with some time on my hands so I can catch up with my TEG family :)

Well, I guess the most important change I've had lately is that I'm currently unemployed. Don't panic though, it was voluntary. My co-workers and I suffered 9 years without a raise. Then last year we all finally got a measly .50 raise. This year it was supposed to be different, and our raises would bring us more in line with what technicians were making in the home office. For most, that was true. For me it was not. I was insulted with another .50 raise. I complained to the head office and got nowhere. I'm the most highly qualified tech in the company, or was. Because I was a satellite tech, it mostly went unnoticed, and what I did was poorly understood by the higher ups. Long story short, they thought I was bluffing about leaving. Oops, I wasn't. My old office is now left scrambling, trying to figure out how to handle all of the things I used to do.
Don't worry about us. I already have several good prospects and one solid job offer. I'm only out of work right now because I choose to be. I'll consider all offers and go where I think is best.

In other news, Dew is happy to have me around a little more lately. I was working 60+ hours a week, so we rarely saw each other except for a couple of hours in the evening and on the weekends. That was starting to get old.

Here's something some of you may find hard to believe, others may find interesting, and still others may feel somewhat angry about...

Dew now owns a handgun, and is training for her concealed carry permit.

That's right folks, Dew's packing heat in the form of a brand new Ruger LC9s compact semi-automatic pistol. She even has a concealed carry purse. Of course she can't carry yet without her permit. We went to the range for the first time yesterday and she did pretty well. I was a small arms instructor in the Navy, so I took her out for some basic observation.

I sent a few rounds down range with my S&W 9mm so she could get used to the sound and see the recoil before firing her own weapon. She didn't show any signs of trembling, as is common with new female shooters, so that was a good thing. After she shot 50 rounds, I have a good idea where she is and have started to develop a training program for her. If she can master the compact 9mm, she will be able to shoot anything she picks up.

On another front, our second oldest daughter came over with potentially bad news. It seems the grandmother of her daughter (the fathers mother) has Lynch Syndrom, and is dying of cancer. She's only 40 (I think). That gives the father a 50/50 chance of having it himself (it's passed down genetically) and if he tests positive, there is a 50/50 chance our grand daughter has it. If she does, it greatly increases her chances of getting cancer at a young age. We are praying and crossing our fingers. Tina's (grand daughter) father is scheduled to be tested, but we don't know when. If he comes back positive, Tina will be tested.

That concludes this installment of "Where the Heck Have Dew and Monty Been?"

Monty, what kind of cancer does it make a person susceptible to? All kinds? Surely by the time your grand daughter is grown, there will be new treatments. I'll be keeping fingers crossed that things turn out positive for the dad, for starters.
It's good to see you back. I bet you will use your down time creatively, and then be back to a better job in no time!

Here's praying for both the father and Tina. The odds say 3 to 1 Tina is OK.

Before I left home after graduating form high school I taught my younger sister how to shoot a '22. With Mom and Dad both working and her alone at home in the middle of not much with two younger brothers I thought it would be a goo thing for her to know. Before long she could hit a fixed target better than me but she could never match me on a moving target. I know you don't sell Dew short because she is female. Annie Oakley was also female.

As far as the job I'm not worried about you. With your attitude you'll do OK. I've been retired from construction for over eight years but a good instrument hand is valuable. With the way automation is going, instrumentation just keeps getting more important. We've been putting steel or wood together for a long time, that's kind of easy, but lot of people don't realize just how important instrumentation is. That caused most of the problems on my last two projects. Management just would not accept how important it was.

Good to hear form you.

You have been missed! I don't blame you a $1 raise in 10 years time for change. I had a thread here last week alarm at work went off 3 am I was thinking about getting hand gun, for me just not right choice. Did anything happen to make Drew feel like she needs to carry, she pretty tough.

Hi Monty/Dew! Good for you for taking a stand at work and good for Dew for being proactive. I think women should understand firearms and be comfortable using them.

Will you be gardening this year?

I am glad you popped back in and let us know what's going on. Will pray all turns out for the good for your granddaughter and her father. Not only are the odds in her favor, but science is moving at a great pace and who knows what the future will bring.

I'll let Dew fill you in on why she now has a gun. And no, I don't think she wants to do me in ...I hope.

Not sure about the garden this year Thistle. I sure hope to put something in, but things are just a little crazy right now.

I hope the best for your grand daughter and her father. Glad that a test can tell of the possible future. Enjoy your time off before you start on a new job. Sometimes you just need that break.

Go Dew! A rootin' tootin' gunslinger!! :gig
