My sister's 2 kids are leaving this weekend for school. My sister wanted the family to get together last night for goodbyes. She picked a restaurant in White Plains that i have never been to. You willn't believe my surprise when I saw under appetizers Fried Green Tomatoes. I have never seen them on any menu and I go to a lot of restaurants. They are one of the very few thing I will try and cook. Now I don't have to :weee:weee:weee:weee:celebrate:celebrate:celebrate:drool:drool:drool:drool

Green tomatoes are year round in stores here. They call them "vine ripened" may have some red color but they are rock hard and taste like tomato stems smell

Ok, I've tried to make them in past-yuck. Will try again if someone has a "sure fire" recipe. IF I don't like them then, I'm done with them.

Real simple. Slice 1/4" thin green tomatoes. Place in bowl of cold water. One at a time, shake excess water from a slice, then dredge through cornmeal. Place on a plate until all slices are cornmealed. In an iron skillet, heat oil on medium high. Fry slices until browned. Sprinkle with salt to taste and enjoy!
