OK, we tried using a blender and a quart of canned tomatoes with 1/2 and 1/2. It tasted ok, but it wasn't a duplicate of the canned stuff. As you know, DH needs to cut salt wherever it exists, so I NEED a recipe that uses my own tomatoes. I have two dehydrators, crock pots and the usual pots and pans. Anybody know how to make this? You guys always are better than a Google search! :hugs

... is mine. DW likes it!

I would not use the garlic salt, fresh garlic instead. The Maggi sauce could be replaced with a low-sodium soy sauce. I'd still want something ... .

I'm not using canned and still have a full bucket of green tomatoes ripening ... well, they are in a big basket now.

I read Steve's recipe a few days ago. I liked the idea with cheese! I made too! My husband and sons loved this soup. Now they are asking me to cook this soup again. I made small changes at the request of husband.
So the tomatoes in a blender as Steve. Then I put them in a pot and add a little water. Because cheese for soup, which I buy in our stores, make a thick puree.
At that time, when pureed tomatoes cooked, I fry onions and carrots in the frying pan. Then I cut the zucchini into small cubes and add to the tomato soup. When the zucchini cooked (20 minutes) I added the onions and carrots. Another 5 minutes of cooking.
Then cheese and dill.
At the same time, I sliced the bread into small cubes and fry in a pan without oil. (toast). It can be put on top of the soup plate. My husband added grated garlic for themselves, children do not like garlic. It turned out delicious, thank you Steve!

I think I could eat zucchini like that. Okra would be good. I'd enjoy the okra flavor but the zucchini taste would have to be subdued ;).

Basil? I've often used basil but it suggests pasta sauce to me. It's funny that I have never complained about oregano on restaurant pizza but I don't like the oregano that grows in my own garden :\. Basil gets the nod over the oregano, every time. And, I grow lots!
Then cheese and dill.

Dill?!! In tomato soup? I like that idea.
