See, you take that term "swashbuckler." Now, a "buckler" was a small shield. A "swash" is the sound that a sword makes when it "swishes" through the air. So, a swashbuckler is someone who straps on his little shield and swings his sword around ... ineffectively, for show.

I had a card for my father's 99th birthday: it had a picture of an olde guy trying to ride a tricycle. I wrote inside that staying young by not acting your age was "belated" in his case . One way his youthfulness used to be demonstrated was his ability to outwork me when he was in his 80's and I was half his age! Okay, I was not half his age. Right. I was a broken down olde man who just happened to find himself out in the midday sun ... with his father!

Or when I shout (usually in response to illogical behavior in a horror movie) "Why would they do that?"... DW answers, "Because the Director said so!".

Always been a sci-fi fan, so those movies figure prominently in my favorites. I really loved "The Abyss", so many sub-plots woven together, and a lot of memorable scenes. Liked the "Matrix" trilogy too, Keanu Reeves' martial arts training in that series proved useful in Jon Wick.

For drama, I loved "Legends of the Fall", a good tale about the enduring bonds of family. Being ex-military, I also enjoy a lot of the historically-based war movies, both old & new. DW loves the older musicals, particularly "Sound of Music" and "The King & I".

Watched Air Force One this weekend. In my opinion, Harrison Ford's best performance.

I am not a lover of horror movies but, why would you hide in the attic or cellar?

I think it would be interesting, to me, to go back and re-watch all the movies that made an impression on me when I was younger. When I re-read a book from a few years past, I get an entirely different take on it. I guess it just depends on where you are in your interests and emotional "journey", as to what impacts you in a movie/book.

I've found that even pretty bad movies remain dear when they are attached to a wonderful memory.
Armageddon - very mediocre & predictable disaster movie - is one of my favorites.

In High School I thought Animal House was one of the funnest movies ever made. I watched it last week and all though out the movie was like what did I find so funny ?

Nyboy, I fear you have grown up -- at least a bit -- since those days.

I saw one of the shark nato movies. It is a hilariously campy movie. And no, it was not scientifically accurate.
