CHIHULY
Saturday, April 22, 2017 – Sunday, October 29, 2017

Breathtaking works of art that dazzle with color, light, and form—by day and night
Artworks by world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly are now on view at NYBG in his first major garden exhibition in New York in more than ten years. CHIHULY, presented by Bank of America, showcases more than 20 installations and includes drawings and early works that reveal the evolution and development of Chihuly’s artistic process during his celebrated career. Set within NYBG’s landmark landscape and buildings, this sensory-filled exhibition is a must-see throughout the changing seasons from spring through fall.

The Garden’s dramatic vistas become living canvases for work created specifically for NYBG, showcasing Chihuly’s signature organic shapes in brilliant colors. Among the singular sights is a monumental reimagination of his storied 1975 Artpark installation: three new works enliven the water features of the Native Plant Garden and the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory Courtyard’s Tropical Pool, reflecting the interplay and movement of color and light.

Special weekend celebrations, films, poetry, and fun-filled art programs for kids offer colorful and imaginative tributes to nature. On CHIHULY Nights, the exhibition is infused with a magical energy as the artworks are spectacularly illuminated amid NYBG’s sweeping vistas and magnificent Conservatory.

@Nyboy lucky you, I've seen a couple of TV specials on his work, one even featured the floor I think in a hallway, it would be like walking over an ocean floor, absolutely mind boggling. Love, love, love, this man's work work. Colored Glass is another of my addictions, I have a fair amount, some pricey, some picked up at flea markets, I'm not fussy, if I like it I like it :).

DS1, gave me these for Christmas one year, he bought these in Mexico.

He gave us this piece for our 50th, he bought it in Venice in one of his globe trotting holidays, it's heavier than sin, I won't let anyone pick it up in case they drop it. I wish I had a better photo than this, depending on which way it's turned it looks completely different.

I'm just a little green with envy, to see Dale Chihuly's work in person how lucky are you.

Yes I am going with a group of friends for the night time tour. Annette I love Venetian glass, have a pair of birds that was my aunts. Just wish it was more affordable. I was dating some one who collected venetian glass clowns before internet, I must have hit 50 antique shops before finding one, then cried handing over my visa for it.

In the 15 century all of the Venetian glass blowers where all located on a island outside the city. Huge furnaces where needed to blow glass, chance of fire was very high. By having all the glass blowers on a island it protected the city from burning down. The island was named Murano today Murano still stands for quality art glass. http://www.originalmuranoglass.com/

That's exactly where he and his partner bought our vase, signed by the artist, on that same island. Thanks so much for the link, I shouldn't have looked tho... saw a vase similar to ours and I almost passed out when I saw how much it must have cost them.
