so my cantaloupe get very large, sit there green for about a month and then get these soft brown spots that eventually rot plumb through. so far 12 melons have went to the chickens and i havent gotten 1. i have had one in my window for a month. it's the size of a basketball and still green today.

so it seems like i plant them, water them, get green fruit the size of basketballs and then they rot. what am I doing wrong? We turn them daily because my wife read that is supposed to help but it's not.

makes me want to mow the patch and get it munched for next year

I wonder if that is sunscald .. ...?

Melons mean a lot to me. I struggled for years to come up with varieties that I can grow here.

Can you check around, maybe with your Cooperative Extension office, and find out if melons are grown commercially anywhere nearby, and what varieties are grown? Co-op Ex was no help to me in that way but it just seems that northern Texas should be good melon country and your problem could relate to variety choice.

BTW, I have grown a Texan tomato for years. It was originally from the Porter and Son Seed Company. It does well here. Willhite Seed Company is not too far from your location. It's interesting that they sell Passport melon seed. That grows well for me!
