"Rustproof Golden Wax" Bush/Snap/Wax. 50 days to snap pods which are straight, golden yellow, stringless, brittle, broad, flat-oval, 5 - 5 1/2" long. Very resistant to bean rust. There have been many forms of Golden Wax. It is one of the oldest known of the wax podded beans. The original Golden Wax was released around 1871. Rustproof has also been associated with Topnotch Golden Wax however the seed shape of this one is observably different than Topnotch.

"White Lion" True bush dry type grows without runners. Discovered in 2013 in "Goose Cranberry" and named by me. "White Lion is still not stable and produced one off type this season of 2017.

"Prolific Black Wax" Bush/Snap/Wax. Selected from several plants by Calvin Keeney and William Woodbridge Tracy Senior in a field of German Black Wax in Genesee county New York. Introduced in 1888 by several seed companies. Pods are light yellow, brittle, tender, stringless, and fiberless.

the Dry Rustproof Golden Wax are not
only different in seed shape they are
also different in seed marking and the pod
from Top Notch.

how are they for flavor?

i'm very happy with the Top Notch beans. i've tried some others and didn't like them as well in comparison (cherokee wax was one of them) and none were as productive or as good.

I'm not sure if this is the same Refugee bean on that antique can. Was probably just Refugee. There has been a whole bunch of beans that have carried the Refugee name as part of their name.

I went back in this thread and found the post. It was post #208 on page 21. The can was market just Refugee. So far I have shown you 3 beans with Refugee in their name and there is more of them yet to come.

also interesting how your White Lion Off Type looks very similar to the pink patterned pinto back on page 38ish except for the darker ring around the hilum.

My pole bean patch was a quarter of a mile away from my house. I had half of a shared garden space with one of my neighbors. The plot was 32 feet wide by 40 feet long. I had a 16 x 40 section.

June 15, 2017 before I put up the rabbit fence

July 3, 2017 Rabbit fence up and pole beans are growing.

July 19,2017 Beans have grown alot in a little over two weeks

July 29, 2017 Bright days of July and the sun is high in the sky.

August 21, 2017 The pole bean patch is in it's prime.

September 15, 2017 The pod harvest is underway.

Three 40 foot rows of pole beans this year in this Harwood Nursery plot. First Bean is "Witzenhausen" Very pretty bean and very productive pole bean. I bought this one from DeaFlora seeds in Germany in 2013. This year Witzenhausen threw off one off type. The red speckling is definitely a different shade and there is not as much area of white on the off type seed.
