I've been in love with the look of the Jelly Palm since I first saw it but am finally getting around to attempting to grow one. Just a few days ago I soaked a few seeds and put them to soil. Today I just put a few more into some water to soak a day or two on a heating pad and from there I'll try to germinate them on some wet paper towels or coffee filters (my preference).

The jelly palm are the seeds on the left. On the right are some musa velutina (pink velvet banana)

wish me luck!

I had to look them up. I have seen palms like these growing in the Houston. Tx area, but never knew they bore fruit. I hope you are successful in getting them to grow!

Thanks! Yeah, some have used them to make wine and jellies but I'm just in it for the looks. If one fruits at some point that's just a bonus

Good luck sprig, hope they take off for you

Thanks! They, like many palms and bananas, can have a troublingly long germination period, so it might be a while before any action happens

I hope it does well for you, keep us updated!

I looked it up also and I read it's one of the hardiest palms, surviving down to 12 degrees. I thought that was interesting, as I usually think of palms as tropical plants.

The fruit was also described as similar to loquats, which are a favorite from my kidhood. We used to eat loquats by the quart.
