Spent a few days away from the farm, came back and we had several inches of rain, weeds galore....Needless to say I'll be busy the rest of the week. Peppers and Tomatoes have gained several inches, and I have bell, banana, and jalapenos forming. Noticed a few small tomatoes, corn has to be Layed by this week, its already bigger than I like to try and drive over. Okra is coming on strong, Purple hulls.....Gone. Guess the deer got brave while I was away. that's okay, I got plenty of seed and plenty of time. I'll post some after pictures once I get everything cleaned up.

what do you mean corn needs to be layed this week?

"Layed By" its a term used when you raise the row again up on the stalk high enough to support the corn stalk. Corn does not have a deep roots system, and rains like we just had can expose the root ball. I usually wait until the corn is just about too tall to get over it with the tractor to do this cause afterwards it will be on its on until harvest. Its a real good time to side dress with a high nitrogen fertilizer if you haven't already, I'll hit mine with triple 17.
Old timers used the term "crops Layed by" meaning they had done all the hoeing and weeding they could do with equipment until harvest, all they had to do was sit back and wait, at least that's what I remember.

I'll post some pics when I finish if it will help you understand.

Will you describe the function of the (3) three pedals of your Farmall

thanks

Sure, the pedal closest to the transmission is the clutch, the middle pedal is the left brake, and the far right is the right brake. You can work them one at a time a spin the tractor on a dime, or flip the lever in between them and use them together. I've gotten use to just using the right side, its never moving fast enough to need both.

Your garden is looking good! The rain might have made the weeds take off, but it was good for the garden too!

Spent the better part of yesterday weeding and trying to recover from the 3 days I was away. I lost a full row of yellow squash, planning to replant those, plus get another couple rows of Zucchini going. The deer got my blue lakes and my purple hulls, so I'll replant both. I saw tractor supply had the solar powered electric fences on sale, plan on investing in one for my pea patch. I cant be over here 24-7 and now that they know its bean season, I'll never keep a pea plant.
Harvested some Kale Thursday for salads, will be given lots of this stuff away, with the rain we have had its growing like crazy.
Peppers and tomatoes are doing great, even seen some tiny Jalapeno's hanging off 1 plant. I did spot some vine borer eggs on several of my squash leafs, quickly pulled those and got rid of them. Also caught some squash bugs doing the wild thing on my butternut squash, they are no longer with us. I don't like to use chemicals on my plants but I may resort to using some liquid 7 on my Zucchini and squash this year just to salvage some. I haven't even seen the first bloom yet and they are here.
